What is dermabrasion?
Dermabrasion and dermaplaning is a technique which helps to the renewal of the upper layers of the skin through a method of controlled surgical scraping. Dermabrasion offers more shiny skin free of marks and scars, by sculpting all skin disorders, such as deep wrinkles, scars and acne.
How is dermabrasion performed and where does the procedure take place?
Dermabrasion can be performed on small areas of skin or on the entire face. It can be used as a single procedure, or in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel.
The treatment can be performed either in the office or in the hospital depending on Dr Kretsis assessment.
The duration of the treatment depends of the problem.
In small areas such as the upper lip wrinkles it is performed in the office as we only perform local anesthesia or apply an anesthetic cream.
It has a minimum of recovery time and the patient can directly return to his activities. On large surfaces such as the entire face, for example a skin with acne scars, the treatment is more invasive and can be performed in the hospital where the patient receives a form of anesthesia.
The procedure lasts 1 hour, the patient does not need to be hospitalized, he remains just for a few hours and then he may return home following the doctor’s instructions .There is a slight swelling which subsides in 2 days and an intense redness which subsides in 15-20 days.
